Day Tour to Edfu and Komombo from Luxor

A Day Tour to Edfu

Day Tour to Edfu and Kom Ombo from Luxor includes the Temple of Edfu. Surprisingly, it is the second largest temple in Egypt. Visitors also know it as the Temple of Horus (the falcon-headed God) and it is the most beautiful and well-preserved of all the Egyptian temples. The Temple is located between the Egyptian cities Luxor and Aswan. A French archaeologist, Auguste Mariette uncovered it from its sand burial in the 1860s. We definitely recommend Day Tour. First, during Day Tour to Edfu and Komombo from Luxor when you see the temple you feel overwhelmed. Then when you walk the ground you feel astonished.

Day Tour to Komombo from Luxor

In 1986, Professor Dr. Dieter Kurth of Hamburg University initiated a long-term project. you can get a good explanation within Day Tour to Edfu and Komombo from Luxor. The project is devoted to a complete translation of the hieroglyphic inscriptions of the Temple of Edfu, a visit in Day Tour to Edfu and Komombo in Upper Egypt (Temple of Horus). this project meets the requirement of both linguistics and literary studies. In addition, the research comprises all internal parallels, relevant literature and an analysis of the systematics behind the decoration. In addition, researches  called for comprehensive analytical indices and a grammar of Graeco-Roman temple inscriptions. The German research Foundation is situated at the University of Hamburg. It financed The Edfu Project until 2001.

You must include a visit to the site of the project as a part of Day Tour to Edfu and Komombo from Luxor. Since 2002, the Academy of Sciences of Göttingen is in charge of the Edfu project. Fortunately, the “Academies’ Programme” Finances the project now and the research unit works still at Hamburg University. Egyptologists gave a translation of the inscriptions of the pylon  which including transcriptions and a commentary. Archeologists published it in 1998. In 2004, another translation followed of the inscriptions of the outer girdle wall. Publishers had not publised some of these texts before. Publishers released The most recent publication in 2014. These texts provide a translation of the inscriptions of the inner side of the girdle wall. Inscriptions of the open court and its columns are available in preliminary translation. To sum up, Day Tour to Edfu and Komombo from Luxor is unbelievable.

Edfu and Kom Ombo

Ancient Egypt Tours representative will pick you up from your hotel in Luxor to enjoy a tour to Edfu. Upon arrival in Edfu, you will be transferred to visit the majestic temple dedicated to Horus at, the Edfu’s Temple is the second largest temple after Karnak. Which was known in Greco-Roman times as Apollonopolis Magna, the temple was dedicated to the falcon God Horus and was built during the Ptolemaic period. Which was oriented east-west instead of the current north-south configuration, The oldest part of the temple is the section from the Festival Hall to the Sanctuary; this was begun by Ptolemy III in 237 BC and completed by his son, Ptolemy IV Philopator. The Hypostyle Hall was added by Ptolemy VII (145-116 BC) and the pylon was erected by Ptolemy IX (88-81 BC). The final touches to the temple were added under Ptolemy XII in 57 BC. The falcon-headed Horus was originally the sky god, whose eyes were the sun and moon

Then transfer to see to the Temple of Kom Omob standing on high grounds overlooking the Nile, the Temple of Sobek and Haroeris in Kom Ombo (also known simply as Kom Ombo Temple) dates from about 180 BC during the Ptolemaic era, with additions made into Roman times It stands right on the bank of the Nile between Edfu and Aswan, making it a convenient stop for river cruises The temple at Kom Ombo was also built at this time, under Ptolemy VI. Since this bend in the Nile was a favored spot for crocodiles to bask in the sun and threaten locals, it is natural that the temple would be dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god. But it is unusual in having a double dedication: it also honors Haroeris, a form of the falcon-headed god Horus. The hypostyle halls were added under Ptolemy XIII (51-47 BC); the Roman emperor Trajan (53-117 AD) added the forecourt and outer enclosure walls. Then you will be transferred back to your hotel /cruise in Luxor
